Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Atlanta we will be able to have our 5th Honor Air day trip to the World War II Memorial on October 10, 2012.
We will escort up to sixty of Atlanta, Georgia’s World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. It is the intention of this Honor Air group to honor as many of these “ordinary people who saved the world” as possible by providing them a completely free day trip to visit their Memorial.
On May 29, 2004 President Bush dedicated the World War II Memorial to honor “The Greatest Generation.” However, many of the men and women who fought and sacrificed for our country have not had the opportunity or the financial ability to visit their own Memorial.
The youngest World War II veteran is now an octogenarian. Our heroes are passing away at the rate of 1,000 per day so time is of the essence!
Here is how the Honor Air works: up to sixty World War II veterans plus guardians, doctors and emergency personnel will gather in early morning hours and travel by motor coach to the Atlanta airport. They will fly on a chartered plane to Washington, D.C. where they will be escorted on buses from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to the World War II Memorial. They will also visit the Vietnam and Korean Memorials and the Tomb of Unknown Soldier. That same day they will return to the Reagan airport, fly back to Atlanta and then by bus to Roswell. For every one or two veterans, a volunteer guardian will be along to personally assist them. Paramedics and wheelchairs will be available for the journey.
The program operates on donations from local businesses, organizations and individuals. The volunteer guardians pay their own way and personally escort the veterans on the aircraft, accompany them to the memorials throughout the day, and then escort them back during the return flight.
It costs approximately $600.00 per veteran for the flight. This covers the cost of the charter plane, transportation, and meals. Sponsorships for these veterans are being solicited and can be made in honor of or in memory of another veteran.
Time if of the essence for this endeavor. All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Please mail your contribution to:
