AIDS Awareness Program - Community Service Project
abstinence based program
Goal:
Roswell Rotary aid program goal for the 2006-2007 Rotary year was to have a educational program in place that would educate students and people on the dangers of aids.
Results:
Roswell Rotary in alliance with AID Atlanta is offered AIDS Awareness and Education programs to Georgia's Middle and High School Students. This program introduces HIV-infected young adults to the teens and provides them with a realistic, frank and powerful discussion about HIV contraction and how it has affected these people's lives. This is an abstinence based program and does not promote "safe sex." It is meant to get the attention of the teens to help them realize that HIV/AIDS can happen to them. The Rotary Club of Roswell has completed or scheduled programs at the following schools:
North Springs High School (3 program
- Creekside High School (2 programs)
- Crabapple Middle School (scheduled for March 27th)
- St. Francis High School (in the works)
- Roswell High (scheduled for March 27th)
- Elkins Pointe - Additionally, Pat DiGeorge has served as Aids Awareness Chairperson for Fulton County, coordinating programs for the clubs in North Fulton. Pat's job is to be liaison between the clubs, the middle and high schools, and Aid Atlanta. Pat sends materials to the head Physical Education teacher in each of the schools and to the presidents of each of the clubs; and then, helps to set up the programs. As a result of this hands-on attention, the number of programs increase each year.
