The Roswell Rotary Club received 12 top awards at the annual District 6900 Rotary Conference on April 27, in San Destin, Fla.
Roswell Rotary President Ron Redner, accepted the awards from the statewide District Gov. Steve Stanfield, and the Rotary International Officer Bill MacDonald.
The awards were: Best All Around Club Award, Presidential Citation Award, Governor Citation Award, Al Daniel Membership Award, Best Yearbook, Best House of Friendship Award, Runner-up Best Conference Attendance Award, Cart Award, District Literacy Award, Zone Literacy Award, Rotary International North American Gold and Silver Literacy Awards.
Roswell Rotary member Nancy Diamond was honored with a Rotary International North American Individual Literacy Award. Under Bob Hagan's charimanship, the club members also raised $51,000 for the Rotary' International Foundation. And Steve Stroud led the membership drive which garnered 26 new members.
As part of the club's annual service to the community, 12 members volunteered to go to Costa Rica where they worked on a Habitat for Humanity house, brought 450 Spanish-English dictionaries to local schools and tested and handed out more than 100 eyeglasses donated by the Lions Club.
The heart of Rotary is Service Above Self, said Redner. Rotarians around the world work tirelessly volunteering their time to make communities and the world a better place to live.
The recognition is earned by Rotary Clubs who have attained outstanding service achievements in their community.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace in the world. There are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians who are members of more than 31,000 Rotary clubs in more than 165 countries.
