AHMEN Housing Contribution $5,000The board of Directors for AHMEN Housing Corp., a local nonprofit, has announced the appointment of Sue Sharp to the position of executive director.

At the March 1 meeting the Roswell Rotary also made a contribution of $5,000 to the AHMEN Housing agency.

"We are very pleased to be able to make a contribution to this worth while nonprofit and assist their efforts in securing workforce housing," said Rotary President Ron Redner. "The Roswell Rotary is committed to addressing community service. The Rotarians include in their scope of activities to undertake the support of agencies such as AHMEN that improve and advance the quality of life in their community.

AHMEN Housing Corp. was created in an effort to halt the trend of demolition of affordable housing and ensuing decrease of workforce housing in North Fulton County. Workforce housing includes single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums, starter homes, and apartments that are affordable to area workers such as police, teachers, firefighters and municipal employees. These are the workers who provide essential services in our communities.

Incorporated in July 2005, the mission of AHMEN Housing is to provide quality, affordable owner-occupied and rental housing to workforce families, and to ensure success through a variety of educational programs. It is the goal of AHMEN Housing to see that the core services providers such as the fireman, police officers, teachers of the community are able to live within the area they work. In addition, AHMEN Housing advocates for the preservation and creation of workforce housing in the area.

The three areas of focus for AHMEN Housing Corporation are:

  • Advocacy for the preservation and creation of affordable workforce housing.
  • To provide homes for the workforce.
  • Conduct educational workshops for homeownership, financial stability and self-sufficient living.

AHMEN Housing Corporation is a non-profit organization focusing on homeownership for the 50 percent to 80 percent of median income group. For a family of four in the Roswell area, that represents $35,000-$56,000 per year, the salary range where many Community service providers and workforce employees fall.

Sharp recently served as the executive director of HomeStretch a transitional housing agency located in Roswell. As director of HomeStretch, Sharp was instrumental in raising over $2 million dollars in less than three years.

Charles Curtis, Board President of AHMEN Housing Corp., said, "We are very fortunate to have Sue as our first full time executive director. She brings a unique combination of leadership, vision, non-profit management experience and a proven fund raising track record that will help AHMEN Housing become a significant community presence and influence. This will ultimately allow us to address the affordable housing dilemma for workforce families in our community."
