Birds of Prey - Auburn 'War Eagle'
Today's program was about birds of prey. Our speakers were Roy Crowe and his assistant Marianne. They are licensed to keep and train and use these wild birds for educational purposes. Notice, I did not say "own." The birds are by law "owned" by the Department of Natural Resources. The Bald Eagle was a "rescue" bird who could not survive in the wild because his beak was not developed properly, with a sharp "hook" on the tip to tear flesh. He has flown at the Auburn Stadium prior to football games. They also have a Golden Eagle that flies, but often it is too hot - their natural range is in cooler regions. We also had a Barn Owl, but it was too active to get a good picture.
