Adopt-A-Platoon

Roswell Rotary is proud to support our military men and women. Tlo express our appreciation for their service and sacrifice, we try to make their deployment in war zones a little more bearable by sending them items that the military does not supply, or that the troops do not have ready access to. In 2009, we delivered 30 welcome-home packages to a returning platoon of Marines, and in early 2010, we sent 58 packages to a platoon of Marines stationed in Afghanistan. Along with the packages went over 170 letters, almost all of them of them written by elementary and middle school students of East Cobb and the greater Roswell area.

We will kick off the donation campaign for our adopted platoon in early 2011. Click here for a list of suggested items.

In the meantime, our “adopted” platoon is a unit of the “Thundering Third, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine, based at Camp Pendelton, CA, currently deployed to Afghanistan. One member of this unit is 24 year old 1st Lieutenant John D. Reynolds of Alpharetta. John has lived in the Alpharetta area since 1991. He graduated from Milton High School, and from the University of Georgia with a degree in business. He accepted his commission in the USMC upon graduation from UGA in May 2008. During his school years, he excelled in several sports, finally settling on Lacrosse as his favorite. His other interests include outdoor activities, history and politics. John has one older sister, Erin, engaged to be married in spring of 2011.

Since John’s unit is slated to return from Afghanistan sometime later in 2010, before our donation campaign, we encourage you to send your own packages, letters or greeting cards, to express your support and gratitude.
